Home

This can be such a weird word. Where is "home" when many different places have become home? But I think home is where you've decided to put down roots for the time being. It's where you go to church. It's where the friends who know your day-to-day live. It's where you have a grocery store and coffee shop with familiar names and faces. It's where you have a running/walking route or two. It's where you have some "lonely places" to read, write, reflect, be still, be with God, ask questions, and gaze upon His beauty. This is home. Xela used to be this. College Station used to be this. Lake Highlands used to be this. Now Oak Cliff is...and I'm glad to be home.

*I just stumbled upon Kendra's somewhat recent blog about home. She is truly a writer, and her words are full of truth and grace. She and I met teaching in Guatemala, and now she and her husband and three kiddos live in Milwaukee. She and Collin embody what being a neighbor is all about and remind me how self-centered I can be. Read her thoughts on home here.
